Intensives

Optimum Movement now offers Intensive therapy blocks focusing on achieving functional goals. Intensive therapy involves completing goal directed therapy (you bring the most important goals to us) in a more frequent therapy intensity – several sessions per week over a 2-3 week program.

It can be either Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy or both. Goals will be individually set with yourself and therapists and aim to be achieved within the intensive block structure.

We offer intensive therapy to children with physical disabilities and can use a wide range of therapy interventions including:
  • Goal directed therapy
  • Bimanual skills training
  • Dynamic Movement Intervention (DMI)
  • Modified constraint included movement therapy
  • Therapy Cage may be used if it is suitable for your child and appropriate to their goals
  • Vibration Plate

The structure of the intensives will differ depending on your child’s age, their goals and the therapy involved.  Examples of some intensive goals might be around becoming independent with dressing, transferring in and out of a wheelchair independently or learning to ride a bike

Intensive sessions may vary from 2 hours per day, up to 4 hours per day. It is usually 4-5 days per week and extends over a 3 week program. It will include pre and post intensive assessments of motor skills, a structured home program and videos of activities for your child.  Embedding home programme practise into your home and community is key to achieving your child’s goal.
